Congratulations to our award-winning 2023-2024 IHM Power of the Pen team!
Power of the Pen is an interscholastic writing competition, open to 7th and 8th Graders in the state of Ohio and hosting 300 schools at various levels of competition. IHM's Junior High students met twice a month throughout the school year, sharing their stories with peers and coaches, receiving feedback, and growing as writers and editors.
Competing at the District level, at Brunswick Middle School, were 8th Graders, Stella Denholm, Aleena Kuttikadan, Vincenza Maltempi, Isabella Phillips, Sarah Thompson, and Gabrielle Ubelhart, as well as 7th Grader, Ashlyn McGuinness.
Advancing to the Regional competition, at Kent State University, were 8th Graders, Aleena Kuttikadan, Sarah Thompson, and Gabrielle Ubelhart, alongside 7th Grader, Ashlyn McGuinness.
IHM 8th Grader, Aleena Kuttikadan, wrote a Regional composition, "The Power to Help," that qualified for publication, was recognized for the Regional Platinum Pen Award, and resulted in her invitation to the Ashland University site of the State Power of the Pen competition.
At the State level, Aleena Kuttikadan finished 23rd among 235 writers. Additionally, she was honored with the State Platinum Pen Award for her piece, "Searching for a Hero," that will be published in the Power of the Pen annual Book of Winners.
Congratulations to Aleena, Class of 2024! IHM is so very proud of you!
